BUSINESS RESOURCES
Lafayette Development Corporation can assist existing businesses as well as new business start-ups and has identified these resources to support their efforts.

Small Business Development Center and the SBA — website for business start-ups or those expanding into new markets, purchasing or selling a business, or developing a new product.

Wisconsin Department of Commerce — website for information on starting and/or expanding your Wisconsin business; contains information on licensing, building codes, Brownfield and PECFA programs, international trade, and business financing.

Wisconsin Business Resource Network — website provides access to information helpful to new and existing businesses in Wisconsin; includes assistance on environmental issues, taxes, health and safety, building codes and standards, human resources, and more.

Wisconsin Business Innovation Network (WIN) — conducts programs focusing on the challenges faced by new and growing technology-based businesses; sponsors monthly high-tech consortium luncheons and the Wisconsin Venture Capital Fair.

New Farm Options — a new resource from UW-Extension. Website provides information about new niche markets, business start-up issues, upcoming events, and entrepreneurs who are pioneering new farm/food ventures in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection — inspects and licenses more than 100,000 businesses and individuals, analyzes millions of laboratory samples, conducts hundreds of hearings and investigations, educates businesses and consumers about best practices, adopts rules that have the force of law, and promotes Wisconsin agriculture at home and abroad.

Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP) — an organization that provides technical expertise and practical business assistance to help small- and mid-sized manufacturers to improve their productivity and profitability.

Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network (WEN) — mission is to create seamless access to entrepreneurial resources and expertise from across Wisconsin to both spawn new ventures and help grow existing businesses.

Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SWWRPC) — provides intergovernmental planning and coordination of community development planning, economic development, and transportation.

 

DEMOGRAPHICS
The State of Wisconsin Department of Administration maintains a database of demographics for various places in the state.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis, Department of Commerce, compiles information on metro areas, counties, regions, and states. Also available for download is a 10-year trend analysis.

The SW Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission compiles geographic and demographic information, and provides links to other sites.
